Synovitis
Synovitis and Synovial Conditions
The synovium is a thin lining that covers and protects all joints. Sometimes, this lining becomes inflamed or irritated, a condition known as synovitis. Synovitis can occur due to various reasons such as injury, recurrent joint bleeding, viral infections, bacterial infections, rheumatoid arthritis, or a condition called synovial chondromatosis (where abnormal growths develop in the synovium).
Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may include:
Rest, ice application, and medications to reduce inflammation.
Intra-articular injections to relieve pain and swelling directly in the joint.
Arthroscopic biopsy and synovectomy ā minimally invasive removal of inflamed synovial tissue and sample collection for diagnosis.
Arthroscopic removal of any loose bodies within the joint.
Open synovectomy and biopsy in more severe or complex cases.
The appropriate treatment for each patient is determined after a thorough evaluation by the cartilage specialist, Dr. VijayKumar D, at SV Ortho Care.
