Ganglion Cyst and Mucoid Degeneration
A ganglion cyst is a harmless, jelly-like fluid swelling that can develop in the knee joint, often around the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Sometimes, the ACL tissue itself swells due to a condition called mucoid degeneration, which can also affect the meniscus. These changes are commonly seen on MRI scans but donβt always cause symptoms.
When symptoms do occur, they may include difficulty bending or straightening the knee, pain while standing, or discomfort during sleep.
Treatment Options
If these symptoms become troublesome, the following treatments may be considered at SV Ortho Care under the guidance of Knee Specialist Dr. VijayKumar D:
Arthroscopic debridement of the ACL β minimally invasive removal of the degenerated tissue to relieve symptoms.
Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction β rebuilding the ligament if severely affected.
Arthroscopic bony notchplasty β reshaping the bone around the ACL to reduce irritation.
The exact treatment will depend on several factors that Dr. VijayKumar D will carefully evaluate during your consultation.
